No. Winter Warrior is not a race. It's a challenge designed to test your arctic athleticism in Canada's snow and cold. If you would like to know your time, please keep track yourself.
The Winter Warrior Challenge is a showcase event for The Ranch Golf and Country Club. We will be hosting this event every year, not only to raise money for a great cause like The Rainbow Society of Alberta but also to show all we have to offer on a year-round basis. This year, we are launching our Winter Activities package that includes fun activities such as toboganning, sleigh rides and bonfires along with our great banquet facilities and mouth-watering meal options. The Ranch is a great spot to hold your next social function, business meeting or wedding, any time of the year.
Registration closes on March 16th, 2017, the Wednesday before the event. Space is limited so be sure to register early to guarantee your spot.
Unfortunately, we cannot transfer a registration to another person. We require a signed waiver and photo ID to pick up your kit and these are tied to the name that is registered.
With every registration, $15 is automatically donated to The Rainbow Society of Alberta, which is dedicated to granting wishes for children who reside in Alberta and have been diagnosed with a severe chronic or life-threatening illness. We encourage you to collect more donations for The Rainbow Society through "Sponsor an Athlete" on The Running Room website or set up your own Personal Donation Page by clicking HERE. Manual pledge forms are available on the Fundraising page and can be collected on the day of the event.
You will receive an emailed tax receipt within 1 - 2 weeks after the race.
Yes, there will be prizes awarded at the meal afterwards. Prizes will be awarded for craziest costumes and top pledge earners. Feel free to get crazy with your outfits (although we still recommend you wear a waterproof layer) and help raise funds for The Rainbow Society of Alberta.
We do not offer refunds, regardless of circumstance. However, if you are unable to participate in the 2016 Winter Warrior and we are notified by March 1, we will allow you to carry your registration forward to our 2017 event.
Registration kit pick up will be on March 10th/11th at a location TBD. Please bring Photo ID in order to pick up your race kit. You can also pick up your kit on the day of the event.
You will be given your rebate when you pick up your registration kit. Each member of a team with 5 to 14 people will receive a $5 cash rebate. Each team member on a team of 15+ people will receive a $10 cash rebate.
All participants will be emailed a few days prior to the event with their starting wave. Please arrive at least 45 minutes in advance of your starting time. Start times will range from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m.
Shoes - Running shoes or lighweight boots; cleats won't improve your grip and are dangerous to other participants
Clothes - Lightweight clothes that dry quickly. A waterproof layer is recommended as well. Even though temperatures might be below zero, heavy and thick clothing will retain moisture and make you colder. Bring a change of clothes as well as you can enjoy the meal afterwards.
Gloves - Waterproof gloves are recommended as you will be crawling on snow and ice. Small cotton gloves will work but are not ideal as they will hold moisture and cool your hands quickly.
Alcohol not purchased at The Ranch. As a licensed facility, The Ranch does not permit any outside alcohol on the premises.
It's completely up to the participants whether they would like to complete the course as a group or not. There are certain obstacles that are easier to complete with a team but you are able to complete the entire course going solo as well.
Due to insurance and liability reasons, all registrants must be at least 18 years old to participate.
Yes, there will be a secure bag drop located in our clubhouse area. The cost is $2 per bag and all proceeds will go to the Rainbow Society of Alberta, our charity of choice. Your items will be marked with your bib number so that only you are able to come and pick them up after the race. Although anything going missing is unlikely, The Ranch assumes no liability for lost or stolen items.
Yes. Winter Warrior is not a race, it's a challenge. If one of the obstacles looks too challenging, you can feel free to skip it. There will always be an alternative path, so you are never forced to complete anything you don't feel comfortable with. Of course, we expect a true Winter Warrior will make their best effort towards every challenge that comes their way.
There will be 1 aid station located on the course. Please make sure you are properly hydrated.
Parking is free but space is limited. Carpooling is encouraged.
Spectators are more than welcome to come out and support their friends and family. There will be spectating areas set up at the start and finish line as well as designated areas throughout the coruse. For liability and safety reasons, spectators are not allowed on the course unless in a designated spectator area.
